Joint Savings Account with Internet Access??

Hi,

I'm trying to track down a savings account that will allow both myself and my father-in-law to access it via the Internet. Can anyone advise if such a beast exists?

Cheers,

Graham

Sure: Citibank does high-interest Internet current accounts (warning: current offer's final day is end Jan, I don't know what they'll do after that), and moderate-interest savings accounts. The current a/cs certainly handle joint access gracefully (each person has their own Delta card and their own PINs to access telephone and internet banking); I'd imagine savings would be little different.

You may well be able to get better rates if you shop around.

We have a joint *current* account with First Direct, and Internet access works very well. I imagine the same would apply to a FD savings account.

Bitstring , from the wonderful person Graham Ranary said

Dozens of them. Practically anyone who has an internet savings a/c can do a joint one.

The Halifax does a "Web Saver account" for two poeple as well as a single saver, you can sign up online at halifax.co.uk

You'll get with the account (after you both go to the branch with ID) a Cash Card each to use with Link ATMs and also pay in cash/cheques ect at a Halifax Branch.

Hope this helps you.

Simon.

What I should have mentioned is that he lives in France, as this seems to be one of the 'problem' areas that I keep coming up against. I've looked in to the suggestions here but have drawn a blank so far.

If anyone can offer a solution I'd be very grateful.

Cheers,

Graham

It's not clear what your problem is: no account I know of is limited by IP to access from a single country, and although First Direct doesn't accept foreign-based accountholders, nothing stops anyone from accessing an account from abroad.

If what you want is a single account run in two currencies, then I think only SOFA military banking facilities have that, and you don't seem to qualify. Nationwide Building Society seems to be the cheapest in cashpoint withdrawals (no commission charged).

To clarify:

My Father-In Law lives in France. Both he and I need on-line access to a savings account. We will be making payments into this account independently - myself from a UK current account, and he from his French current account. It will be rare that withdrawals are made, but these can be in Sterling into my current account if need be.

Banks/Building Societies seem reluctant to operate an account where one of the holders lives abroad - even though France is within the EU. Of course I could open a sole account and give my Father-In Law access, but this would be against the terms and conditions.

Cheers,

Graham

How often are you likely to use it? How much do you trust each other?

If its only used to occasionally check balances couldn't you just tell him your password, so he can access it as you?

Oh well that will teach me not to post until I've read the whole thread.

He's volunteering information. He should give the UK address for all account holders. Otherwise there are complex tax issues regarding gross and net payment of interest.
