Just spoke with Icesave

Just spoke on the telephone with Icesave. Used 'saynoto0870' to get an alternative geographical telephone number so that I wouldn't be spending a fortune waiting for an answer on their normal 0845 number. (For anyone like me who has free calls to geographical numbers, you can call Icesave on: 0191

2558377).

I got through after about six or seven minutes. The young lad who answered sounded very weary - I expect he's (undeservedly) getting a lot of flack and abuse today!

I pointed out that I had closed my Icesave account down on the Monday evening and transferred the entire balance to my current account and, as a result, could no longer access my account to check if the transfer had gone through.

He stated that it was very unlikely that the transfer had gone through, that there were a lot of people in my situation, and that their IT staff were working on the problem to remove the block on the accounts and re-enable access via the old password details. Said it could take a few days though.

Any hopes that I had that my entire balance was on its way to my current account are now pretty much dashed!

Ret.

Loads of people on radio 5 live this morning in your situation. Some had been told by Icesave that a CHAPS transfer had been made but there was an IT problem with the CHAPS system and the money would appear in the alternative bank account soon.

R 5 Live had a CHAPS expert on who said that the CHAPS system is proof against glitches and delays and that their money had certainly never left Icesave. Probably because Icesave didn't have the money to send, and all that could be done was to wait for the compensation to come through.
