Icesave password lock-out removed.

I was locked out of accessing my Icesave account after attempting to close the account and transfer the full balance on the Monday evening prior to the stop on withdrawals the next day. Although the transfer did not go through, by closing the account my passwords became expired.

I've just tried to log in again this morning and instead of being told that the details I entered are incorrect I have been asked to set up a new password. I did this and was given the first half of a new password with the second to follow via e-mail.

Anyone else who, like me, has been locked out of their account due to trying to close it down at the last minute should now be able to access their account after setting up a new password.

The first time I tried this the second half of the password did not come through. Tried it again and this time it worked. I've now been able to access my account and see that the balance is still shown in my account which is a relief. I've also done what some others have done and change my interest requirements from annual to monthly because I'm not sure if the compensation scheme will cater for interest not already added to the account.

When speaking on the radio this weekend, a spokesman from the FSCS (FSA?) indicated that only interest credited to the account by the 8th Oct 08 would be paid

Ah! Then I'm too late! Actually, what I'm hoping is that these talks in Reyjavik will result in UK help being given to allowing Icesave to open its accounts again to normal withdrawals and ISA transfers. Clearly this would make the whole procedure simpler, not just for depositers but also for the FSCS. Instead of the FSCS repaying money to investors - it repays it to Icesave (with safeguards of course!) to enable them to re-open the accounts.

Are you sure you/they're interpreting that correctly? - interest is usually earned on a daily basis, but may be paid annually. Didn't they mean that you'd get interest earned up to 8th Oct, and not beyond?

I would imagine that's the correct interpretation.

In a previous discussion on Icesave (on 09 Oct at 10:32) brightsave S9 said "And they are still crediting interest! Monthly interest due on

9/10/08 is shown on the statement and totalled into the' Cleared Balance."

If this info is accurate I wonder if it has been "corrected."
