Marketing guru hired to rebrand social housing !!

Stephen - you missed a once in a lifetime opportunity !! -

"The federation has started an ambitious project to tackle the poor public perception of social housing that has meant that many housing associations have had problems letting their properties.

It has hired the marketing guru Wally Olins to produce a positive brand identity for the sector. As part of the market research for the project Mr Olins founds that many housing association "customers" were put off the sector by the fear of bad neighbours."

Yes, It seems I missed a rather good opportunity..I assume that of course "social housing" is what we used to call council housing?

Yah, it seems now they have changed everything, it used to be dhss, now it is DSS, and even the old income support is changed to job seekers allowance, and council houses are now social housing? different labels eh?

This is not strictly true; social housing is generally owned by 'Registered Social Landlords' formerly known as housing associations. Most councils had to sell off their housing stock under 'right to buy', or at least the better part of it. Councils still have an obligation to house certain people though, and may run their own housing dept to do so.

Ahh it all seemed to change after maggie started selling off council houses.

Are there actually any "council houses" being built by the government any more do you know?

Not directly. But housing associations do build houses, sometimes with government help.
