MBNA - consolisating credit limits

I've got three different cards with MBNA - one is an Abbey National Card now operated by MBNA, and the other two are proper MBNA accounts (one VISA and other Mastercard). The total limit of all three cards is 13,000.

I don't really need to carry all the plastic around, but it would nice to keep the 13,000 credit limit. Anybody know if MBNA allow you to transfer the credit limit from one card to another and consolidate up?

None of the cards have balances outstanding against them as they're paid off every month, although I only really use one card, and the other ones are emergency card, like if I can't find the other one or two!

TIA

I would doubt if you could consolidate them.

Is it really that difficult to keep two cards in a designated place for emergencies?

Why don't you ring them up and ask them? Their number is on the card.

I think you are correct about the zero balance, as I wanted to merge a normal MBNA card to my University affiliated one (cheaper rate etc), and I think that I had to pay off the balance on the former.

Looks like my assumption was wrong then. But if they are these cards that are linked to some other business, say a store or something, wouldnt they get upset about having their card "cancelled"?

Perhaps - but that's just "tough", isn't it? :-) You are under no obligation to keep a credit card forever - are you?

True but I thought the credit card company would try to pretend you were!

Just done it last week.

Ring up and cancel the 2 that you no longer want/need then transfer the balance over to the remaining one.

Choose which response is more appropriate:

A Why didn't I think of that?

B I don't think you understand the problem.

No Peter, I don't think my error was unimportant, it was a simple mistake, but this could have been pointed out (by you) with a little less sarcasm, nor is everything I say wrong.

Oxford English Dictionary definition of pedant "one who lays *excessive* emphasis on detailed points"

But perhaps with hindsight a better choice of word may have been cantankerous or supercillious.
