Mortgage and credit history

Jan 08, 2007 0 Replies

I am originally from Italy, but have been living in the UK for a long time (over 15 years). In fact, I recently became a British citizen. I am now thinking of buying a house or a flat in London. I have a decent job (about 50-60k per year), but no credit history whatsoever. I never got a credit card when I was a student. I now realise it may have been a good idea to create some credit history. On the plus side, I have never had financial problems and always paid my bills on time. Is my lack of credit history likely to affect me when it comes to getting a mortgage? I would probably need to borrow something like £100,000 - £150,000.

Is it very difficult nowadays to get a fixed mortgage? What would a typical mortgage agreement look like for someone in my condition, living in London?

Thanks.
