New Pension Trustee

I have recently taken up an appointment as a Trustee to my companies Final Salary Pension Scheme. Every question I ask seems to take weeks to answer, and every number I see leaves me scratching my head. A feel totally confused but cannot decide if my confusion is being brought about by my own ignorance and lack of knowledge, or by poor advice.

I take my responsibilities seriously and am determined to ensure that I fulfill my duties to the best of my ability and that the schemes members are properly represented. To this end I would be very grateful for any suggestions as to the quickest and easiest way to get myself "up to speed" (hopefully without spending a personal fortune in doing so).

Any and all advice would be gratefully received.

Thank You

As Stephen has suggested, your employer may be prepared to arrange suitable training for you. If so, you may be interested in the Trustee Training System produced by a company called Aries, which is a PC-based course that you can work through at your own pace and covers exactly what you need to know. Their website is at

- note that the system promoted on the website isn't the one I mean, but the site includes the relevant contact details. And no - I don't work for them! (Although I have used their main system on a daily basis for many years.)
