OT: Anglo Saxo pronunciation

Just looked pu a few words in my dictionary to find their Anglo-Saxon originals.

snow - snaw out - ut (hard u as in oot ) down - dune go- gan

these are the same pronunciations still found in Geordie and Scots dialect.

why did the Southern English change the way they pronounced Anglo Saxon words and the Geordies and Scots kept their original pronunciations ?
