[OT] Right Newsgroup

Hi,

I'm looking for advice on buying my council house either now or some time in the not to distant future. Have I come to the right newsgroup or is this off topic?

You're in the right place, unless it was a legal question (in which case uk.legal).

OK, I've heard about this sites/companies which facilitate the purchase of your abode. I figure these companies take a hefty wedge in commission in order to do this for you or does anyone know of a cheap and reputable company so I wont have to. In addition is there any companies of this sort who will do this for a price but will let you find your own lender as I'm with Smile and their rates have always been excellent and don't expect their mortgages to be any different.

If all of these companies are just sharks after my life blood how complicated and awkward a deal is it to buy my place and what advice do you have?

Thanks

You mean a solicitor? Ask a friend or neighbour who they've used perhaps?

You'll be paying well over the odds. My friend has been messed about for two years to buy his - but they're using the valuation they first did all that time ago. So whilst his valuation is 48k his neighbours house is on the open market for 105k.
