I know that some banks won't supply paying in slips to take out, but what about customers who want to pay in cheques by post and they have used up the slips in their cheque book? What are they to do?

If you need more than the cheque book provides you can apply for a paying in book.

Order a book of pay in slips from your bank.
Send the cheque to their bank with a letter. The bank only needs to know which account the cheque is to be credited to, there's no need to use a pay-in slip.
