Powergen new tariff for online users - update

Dec 10, 2003 5 Replies

Good afternoon and thank you for your email.

I have looked at your account and it shows you are currently on the standard charge single rate tariff. Before you can go onto the Energy Online dual fuel tariff we need to know if:

  • Did you have an online tariff for gas and electric with Amerada?

  • Did you pay for them by Direct Debit?

If you could email me back with these details I'll be able to look into what we can offer.

If you need any further help in the meantime please don't hesitate in contacting me.

Kind regards

Not sure what the difference being on an online tariff with Amerada is and why they want to know if I paid by direct debit. I'll keep you all posted on what happens next.

Amerada is and

Actually it is news that Powergen have replied to an email, I have a letter from them that tells me they have insufficient staff to do that.

I was paying 43 a month for both fuels with Amerada and built up a credit of 141 in the last 12 months. That 141 is currently lost and Powergen has raised my DD to 60 "because I am a new customer and they don't know my usage history". I've refused to allow any payment to Powergen until they can come up with a more reasonable amount. Every time I log into my on-line bank I check the list of authorized DDs. Twice now I've cancelled the Powergen authority.

Amerada's service wasn't exactly world class but Powergen is certainly far far worse.

In 1998 I changed my gas supplier from British Gas to Eastern Natural Gas, who subsequently became TXU Energi. I then changed to Amerada for both supplies in 2002. Amerada & TXU Energi are now part of Powergen, so I may as well have not bothered in the first place. Amerada made a complete mess of my gas billing, which was eventually sorted out by myself and TXU. I didn't agree with Powergen's monthly estimate, so I told them what I was going to pay (based on my last 6 years energy usage), which they have accepted. There are options on the website for changing monthly payments and submitting meter readings.

I also have an outstanding balance due from Amerada, which seems to have conveniently disappeared, although otherwise, all seems to be going smoothly so far - the correct amount has been debited on the right date. Powergen have a 'Staywarm' scheme in conjunction with Age Concern. This may be worth looking into, as I'm 60 this year. BTW, Powergen give Tesco Clubcard points.

They are probably as bad as each other! Powergen refunded my credit of 100 built up with Amerada in a couple of days.

Previously, a month or so before Powergen took over my account from Amerada, Amerada upped my D/D from 5 (as I was trying to clawback the credit) to

50 as I had an outstanding balance of -150 on my account.

Sigh!

Well, Amerada took 180 straight out of my bank account to settle what I owed them
