Powergen new tariff for online users

Powergen appears to have introduced a new tariff for online users called Powergen Energy Online Dual Fuel. Has anyone on a Powergen standard tariff, especially ex-Amerada, successfully requested to be transferred to this new cheaper tariff? According to the

website I'd save 48/pa on this new tariff compared to my current Powergen Standard one - would be extremely miffed though if Powergen refused to transfer me to the new tariff - although I could go to SWEB and London Energy and save 45/pa and get Nextar reward points!

Completely different topic but fits in this thread:

I'm looking at renting a house which is/has had power supplied by TXU Energi (now Powergen owned I think).

I don't want to be supplied by these, do I have to sign up with them as new occupier and then switch or can I just sign with my supplier of choice?

The supplier I had chosen said "it's not one of ours- speak to them first" so I did, but they wern't interested in talking to me unless I covered an outstanding bill from previuos occupier!

What next?

Should be "Fool's Gold" - don't you need to spend about £30,000 to get enough points to get a stereo?

Best loyalty/points scheme going btw is Morrison's 'points for petrol' or whatever its called (especially at Port Talbot) for those using LPG gas. The scheme gives 1.5p per litre off fuel (as a voucher for shopping), meant for petrol but also applies to LPG and for some reason PT charges only 29p per litre for LPG (as opposed to 37.5-39p national average) Other Morrisons around country charge 32p, most LPG filling stations charge 37-39). So what should be a 1.5/75 = 2% discount actually is given as a 1.5/29.9 = 5% discount on a very cheap price to start.

Don't all rush at once!

During October I used uswitch.com to compare prices. It told me I would save

40 if I moved to Powergen dual fuel online tariff. When I phoned Powergen the sales dept did not know anything about the online tariff. After several calls with different dept. I was told the new online tariff may be available late Dec or Jan 204. They did not have information on the prices.

That amazing thing is how come Uswitch.com have prices for the online tariff yet Powergen's sales dept have no idea ?

In the end I moved to Scottish Power online account. You can join their capped price tariff. No price increases for 36 months. You pay 1 a month for the service. You get 36 back after 36 months. You can leave when ever you want. You also get discounts for online account and dual fuel.

With most companies increasing their prices for fuel it is the best time to join. Fuel prices are going to go up rather than go down in the next few years.

Do you know where on their web it says you get the 36 back after 3 years?

I can see the prices listed

ped/london.pdf) and that it costs 12 more/year than their standard tariff but not that you will get this back after 3 years.. ? TIA

If you are over 60 then it's worth checking out the Age concern electric/gas tariff:

If you are using uswitch to do the changeover you can also get some free wine:

Switch online and nominate some friends...for each friend that uses the website to switch supplier you get three bottles of wine! Your friends can then nominate their friends and get free wine.

PS: I suggest everyone takes it in turn to nominate each other so that everyone gets some free wine and no-one misses out..can someone use my link above please?? :)

I'm a ex-amerada customer now with Powergen (by default). Was not happy about by bills increasing just because Powergen bought Amerada out....

I have both my Gas and Elec with Powergen, but have no idea if I am on the Online Dual Fuel tarrif or not. How can I tell what tarrif I am currently on? I would rather look online for this info, as opposed to speaking to some callcentre...

You don't need to talk to anyone - just email snipped-for-privacy@powegen.co.uk with your account number and ask them.

As an ex-Amerada.co.uk customer I'm on "Powergen Energy Online":

Electricty: Standing Charge £9.05 per quarter and 5.179p per kWh (inc VAT). Gas: Standing Charge £10.00 per quarter and 1.416p per kWh (inc VAT).

"There is an annual discount of £36 as long as you remain on monthly Direct Debit, manage your acount online and we supply both your electricity and gas on One Bill."

I've just switched gas to Servista who have no standing charge and a unit price of 1.402p per kWh (inc VAT).

The electricity remains with Powergen as the above price is excellent for my usage and location.

Cheers,

Jason.

You can - as an ex-Amerada.co.uk customer I'm on "Powergen Energy Online". This has the same prices as quoted on Uswitch when I last checked...

See prices in another post in this thread.

The suggestion was the Amerada.co.uk had no increased their prices in over two years, while other companies had done so. I seem to recall there's a little review on Uswitch that says exactly this.

Servista.com has a cheaper gas unit price and no standing charge than the Powergen Energy Online product.

Cheers,

Jason.

I emailed Powergen who said I was put on their "standard" tariff when I moved from Amerada.

Appartantly, the "Energy Online" tariff was only applied to those getting both gas *and* electricity from Powergen - not just a single fuel.

It also means my Powergen price will increase from 05/01/04 not 01/04/04 as it will for "Energy Online" customers.

They did however, say:

"The On-Line tariff that was offered to ex-Amerada customers will be offered to all Powergen customers around February 2004 on our website and in the media. Some price checker companies like uswitch.com are currently showing the On-Line tariff but it is not available yet to all Powergen customers."

Ah well time to move, Powergen are not the cheapest for me, with either of their tariffs by a long way..

I entered unsolicited meter readings to test the system and this seemed to generate an amended bill. Try it - only thing is bill viewing does not seem to be working today. SNAFU
