No, it would be paid, and the CC company would chase you for it. That is why 'Continuous Credit Authorities' ('CCA's) are a rotten idea - =youcan't even cancel them deliberately, the originator has to be persuaded to stop billing you.

And I should notify the company >that my card number has changed?

Yes.

If you write to the company and tell them you're withdrawing the authority which you had previously given them to charge your card, then the CCA is cancelled. Copy the letter to your credit card company and you shouldn't have to pay any further charges.

Continuous credit card authority is exactly what it says it is - they will continue indefinitely unless you cancel the instruction with the company taking the funds, even if you attempt to cancel the card and change the number etc. The card issuer will simply match up your old card number with the new one. Unless you're dealing with a pretty reputable company, CCCA's are a pretty dangerous way of transacting payments, as they can sometimes be problematic to stop. Although sounding similar to a normal direct debit - they are nothing like them.

ahhh.. - I see.. - thanks both for the info.

yes, certainly does seem like a bad idea.. - So would be much better going for direct debit every time, so then at least you have more control over it.. i.e. you can do the cancelling..

thanks, Ben

You write to the merchant telling them they no longer have permission to take money from your card.

If they do, report it as a fraudulent transaction.

Didn't the original poster suggest it was his ISP? It shouldn't be too difficult to track them down.

Knowing who they are, and how to get hold of them by registered mail, are not necessarily congruent.
