Does anyone know where I can find anything about the history of the Refuge Assurance Company. It was apparently founded by a man called Proctor. Where is it now? Please?

It was founded in Manchester by James Proctor and a group of Manchester businessmen, had a impressive building on the corner of Oxford Road and Wilmslow Road in Manchester, which is now the Palace Hotel, until they moved to Wilmslow.
Merged with United Friendly in 1996 to become United Assurance, which was taken over by Royal London Group in 2000.

Search on Google under "refuge assurance company history" provides a link to

which under the time line of 1835 show that to be the case. Also shows that in 1996 Refuge assurance and United friendly became United Assurance group, trading as United Friendly. Not much, but that was in 5 minutes searching.
