St James's Place

Does anyone have experience of St James's Place? Have they a good reputation and range of products? I've a redundancy cheque to invest but I've been warned off them because the advisors are 'tied'? I'm just trying to gauge how important this is though, especially if other people are happy with the products.

I'm grateful for any thoughts.

Thanks

HughThistle gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying:

Yes.

It solely means that their salesmen cannot sell anything other than their products. They can only tell you which of their products they think is the most appropriate. How that "appropriateness" is defined is up to you and them to discuss. Their definition may easily place more priority on the level of commission they get or their sales targets than your definition would.

If they knew damn well that their product was a bag of steaming s**te compared to everybody else's, they would not be able to tell you this.

Their post-sale customer service couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery.

Find an IFA.

Always go to an IFA and if you feel there might be commission bias ask to pay him a fee rather than let him take commission.

It's a long time ago, but I wouldn't go there again.

After being warned away from them (for whatever reason), is there a particular reason you want to go with them?

I keep getting unsolicited junk mail from them printed on expensive paper.

The wording of the letter always persuades me to shred it immediately :)
