I understand that most banks in the UK are phasing out the issue of Visa Electron / Solo cards and replacing them with Visa Debit / Maestro. Does anyone know anymore ?

I opened a account with the Abbey a couple of months ago and I got a Visa Electron card.
My HSBC solo/maestro card expired recently and was replaced with a Visa Debit card.
Do you have a link?
If that was meant to be a gag, it was quite amusing, if a little subtle
