I just got sent one of these 'visa electron' cards from HBOS in place of my regular visa debit.
Is this because they don't trust me?
Does anywhere accept this card?

Pretty much everywhere these days.
You'll find that most websites WONT accept them,
but, Paypal, Sainsburys, Play.com and a select few other do
Possibly
Some places do, but it isn't anything like as widely accepted as visa debit.
Visa Electron cards do not have cheque guarantee, so if you find somewhere that doesn't take it, you won't be able to pay by cheque either.
