Why is the CIS so weird?

I rang them to take out some buildings insurance and instead of getting a quote and setting up over the phone I got passed through to a local agent who then came round to my house with a policy which I signed there and then. I found this really strange but I still went with them because they were 40% cheaper than the next best quote.

Hi Jacob,

A very similar situation to my car insurance. The local agent still came around to my house to confirm details, rather than finish the dealings over the phone. However, being the "lethal" age of 19 CIS did offer by far the best quote so it wasn't a problem, I even threw in a cup of tea on the house.

They never seemed as good on the car insurance being 23 driving a 02 Clio with 2 smashes and 3 points but they insured my new 3 bed detached house for

75 compared to the 150-300 that some of them wanted.

I was 17 when I first insured my car, immediately after I passed. I have an N reg Clio 1.2 and as a fully comprehensive, named driver, my Dad being the policy holder, it was 1010. This reduced last year to 930 and now it is

730. When it gets down to a more respectable level I will sort out gathering my own no-claims with a policy in my name. Doing Pass-Plus which I have, automatically gets me one year's no claims. CIS were by far the cheapest, AA wanted around 2000 off the top of my head.

If I'm reading this correctly, that your Dad is the nominal holder of the policy, but you are the main driver, then I think you need to be very careful. An insurance policy is one of 'utmost faith', or putting it more prosaically, you are duty bound to tell the insurer all the circumstances.

In the event of a claim and they become aware of the real nature of the arrangement, then they could be very difficult about it.

If you want to be on the safe side, I'd advise you to let them know.

Confused are pretty good, but they will rate on the youngest drivers automatically. 1. Put yourself as a policy holder first .2 get a price. 3. THEN add dad as a second driver. A bit time consuming but you will see some real differences. Insurance companies are well aware of "fronting" and tend to penalise you for it
