Ideally you go into your own bank and ask them to do a telegraphic transfer to the other account from your own.

The money laundering rules might make using another bank a problem.

What exactly are you trying to do? Effectively use BACS ... a delay of two or three banking days? Or is the recipient expecting instant payment, in which case CHAPS.

If BACS ... you have telephone or internet banking? If so, just use that. If CHAPS you will need to involve your bank ... except if the intended recipient happens to bank at the same bank as you .... check out whether using telephone or banking banking produces an instant result? I bank at HSBC and using my internet banking facility, if making a payment to another person's HSBC account ... it arrives instantly!

Even transfers to overseas branches of HSBC are pretty quick. I've had a payment to an HSBC branch in the Philippines arrive within a couple of hours of being requested from the UK.
