Working from home - who to tell..

True, I was lucky that the London Borough I lived in were not fussed providing no neighbours complained and there was no substantial increase in traffic etc.

The easiest and cheapest thing I did was befriending the neighbours, I have always thought this was the best way to avoid problems., I have been in the same place for 6 years now and not a whisper of a problem from anyone.

(Also Flash cars in London are not a great idea if you want to keep them :-)

Indeed, if neighbours don't complain it will be years before the council finds out.

But beware! Some councils are now going through company databases and correlating these with their own records. I got rumbled in my last address after about 5 years. So you need a PO box number (and a postcode which isn't your home to go with that) and make sure that is what appears on any business stationery (which might end up in one of the countless business junk mail databases) or on your website.

Also go on the mail preference service - that will help to avoid junk mailing lists.

Basically working from home long-term requires a multi-fronted approach.
