Financial Knowledge....I need help ?

Question

I am a C coder from computer science. I am going to give an interview in a big financial firm for financial developer position in Chicago. I don't know anything about financi world and I tried to read up some stuff from wikipedia etc.

I want to know more about finance world. Is there some good tutorial you guys can redirect me to. I want to know about shares, bonds, derivates etc. But just randomly reading isn't helping me. I want to read in a sequential manner where I can understand these facts better.

You should definitely google the company's products and services but forget about a "tutorial in a sequential manner". Given the limited time (several days?) a college library reference section is your best source for sequential understanding on financial concepts.

Don't try to play up a limited knowledge of finance at the interview. They will see through that right away. "Hey, I think stocks are cool. All that cash and all you have to do is give the stockholders some equity."

Instead, research the firm.

Ask your questions in any poor house you come across. The best I can offer is this: Deal only with the big numbers. I wont buy or sell anything under 50M in regard to stocks or bonds. Don't ever use the word NOTE. The term to use is commercial paper as it covers everything.

Get started with these internet wannabees cause all of the would be brokers have at least 100M on their hands--yeah right!
