Referencing an earlier thread, I have had some serious energy efficiency difficulties. A 3.5 ton heat pumps runs on about 13,300 watts (like turning on 133 light bulbs of 100 watts each). My new foot- warmer thingy runs on 90 watts (~$50 bucks new), my electric blanket (~ $90 bucks and it's really nice) on 150 watts (or less), and my portable radiator (~$70 bucks) gives me a ready-made pfancy zoned heat system, so I now set my house thermostat w-a-y low (and I feel sooo good about the spotted owl, and much better about the ice caps).
