Adding workstations reverts invoices

I don't have much experience working with Peachtree and have not used the program at all but I have to take care of setting up new computers. Every time I install Peachtree 2006 on a new computer, the people using the program notice that their custom invoices and statements revert back to a previous version and some recently created statements are missing. When I install, I select network install and set the program path to the local machine and the data path to a folder on our server. Also in our data folder on the server new folders show up with names such as "AAAAAAac" with mostly A's but various letters at the end. I think this happens when I install but I haven't paid close enough attention to be sure. We have 12 of those folders right now. Any help would be appreciated.

To avoid this install with the local and data path set to the local installation path. This will prevent proper network access, but you can easily fix this.

After installing the product navigate to C:\windows. Find and double click on the file named PXXXNNN.ini, PXXNNN.ini, PXXNN.ini, or PXXNN.ini where XXX or XX represents the initials of your Peachtree addition (I.E. PAA for Premium Accountants Addition) and NNN or NN represents the 1st three digits of your Peachtree version (I.E. 130 for 13.0) as displayed in the Build: line of the Help | About Peachtree Accounting dialog box.

Locate the line that begins with DATAPATH= and change the path to your network data path. Make sure the last directory in the path is one level up from the one with your company's .dat files (address.dat, etc.) and that all portions of the path confirm to 8.3 naming conventions (8 characters followed by an optional period and 3 letters with no spaces).

If a directory does not conform to 8.3 naming conventions you can obtain the alternate 8.3 name, by changing to its parent at a command prompt, entering dir /x and looking in the 2nd to last column of data.

After changing the above save and close the file.

Another alternative is that when you're running the install, deselect the options to install sample company data and standard forms . . . Those 12 folders are each sample company data - since the destination folder already exists (sample data was installed by a previous installation) - Peachtree creates a new folder.

Thank you both that solved my problems.
