Check printing problem

I have been using peachtree since 1986. So I should have sufficient knowledge of how it works. Since 1998 I have used peachtree complete for DOS with an upgrade for year 2000 problem.

At present I have it installed on computer #1 which is networked to 3 other computers using microsoft networking. The operating system is Windows 98SE.

Towards the end of 1997 I stopped using the payroll module as our company decided to use a payroll service for convenience.

Starting April 1, this year we decided to go back to using peachtree for our payroll. I created all the various generations required to get to 2nd quarter of 2005. I had no problem doing that and setting up the tax file and inserting new employees as well as removing the old ones. I calculated the pay and printed the pre-check payroll register using computer #3.

As I had already set up one of the local printers on #3 to print payroll checks, I went ahead to print the checks. I received a message CANNOT LOAD PCAV90.EXE FILE. Then I got a red screen showing System Error #5.

I figured that PCAV90.EXE file was corrupt. So I changed the name of that file, dusted off my old peachtree floppies and reinstalled that file in computer #1.

I tried again with the same result. Now I went to computer#1 and connected the same printer directly to computer #1 and was able to print the checks.

If I remember correctly, I did not come across this problem in 1997. Incidently I am able to print A/P checks using computer#3 and the local printer.

What has got me flabbergasted is why PCAV90.EXE file would not load thru the network, so that I can use my computer#3 to print payroll checks the same way as I print A/P checks.

I will appreciate any help to solve this problem.

Thank you, Gulab Gidwani
