Adding Total to Report

I am generating a bunch of year end customer reports. I am having trouble finding an example of how to modify a report to show the total number of customers meeting the criteria to appear on the report. A lot of the time I am less interested in viewing 9 pages of detail when all I need is a total number of customers meeting the criteria.

For sales reports, a lot of them will roll up to a total, summing up the numbers in the end column. How do I do that to just count the number of line items (e.g. customers) on a report?
