AX for Retail. Is that RMS 3.0?

Hey,

Does anyone know much about AX for Retail or has heard anything about it? I am using RMS 2.0.0126 now on Vista 32 bit but am wanting to upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit and would like to know if AX for Retail is better then RMS.

Thanks,

HI Steve

What is RMS 2.0 not doing today, or not able to do tomorrow, that you need it to do, that would make you want to consider looking at another system such as AX for Retail?

POS systems can be glass half full / half empty IMO.... - "better" can mean different things to different people. My understanding is that a POS setup with AX is way more greenbacks than RMS. If maintenance is also a % of the software value, and if it holds true that "better" (read "more complex") systems typically are more expensive to maintain on a regular basis (hardware and partner support), you may be staring at some serious dollar signs. In the end, a POS system is an investment, and if those serious dollar signs address RMS weaknesses that are costing you money and will pay for itself in

4 to 6 years, then maybe it makes sense.

Now to answer the question of what does RMS not do that I don't know if AX for Retail will or will not do.

  1. Store and show more than one Image per item.
  2. I am in the tire business and sometimes we have a tax call F.E.T. and it is passed down by the distributer but you don't tax that amount when you ring up the item. Example: tire cost 0.00 plus .39 FET. You mark it up to say 5.00 plus .39 FET and than tax the 5.00 at 10% making the total 1.89 5.00*10%+.39 FET. There is no where that I know of to put the FET on a purchase order and it will not show up on the item lookup screen if you don't have a place to put it. Not all FET is the same price. I think that it is based on the weight of the tire at the time it is made.
  3. I would also like to see a POS system that can be intergated with NAPA TRACS. Which is a Vehicle repair POS that connects to NAPA's catalog and automaticly downloads the lastest prices on over a million automotive parts.
  4. I like to see new tech not to say that there is that much wrong with RMS cause I have used it for 2 years now.
  5. I need to get my RMS and my Ingencio I6550 to work with Windows 7.

Thanks for everyones advice in advance!

suggestion for FET: create a non-inventoried, no tax item for the FET charge to match each tire that will list on the receipt sepaprately, but will only charge tax on the tire portion of the sale. You could then build an assembly item group that would add both entries to the receipt with a single sku.

I'm not sure that you would call AX RMS 3.0, but it is MS's next generation of POS software. As of right now MS plans to discontinue fixes and updates of RMS in 5 years. After that you will need to decide if the final product meets your needs for the foreseeable future, or if you need to move to AX, or some other POS system so your needs are going to continue to be met. From what I can decipher(which isn't much, because there just isn't much out there about it), AX is meant more for a mid to large sized operation, which would probably price it out of my reach. Personally I am not worried about it right now. 5 years is a long time, and I'm content with what I have. For your situation though, what your looking for will probably need to be done with an add-on. It seems to be something not a lot of industries would need, so I'm not sure many software makers would spend the time necessary to develop it out of the box, just my opinion.
