Best OS for MS-RMS

I am running a deli with an IBM server and 2 stand alone registers. Every now and then one of the registers will lock up and need to be hard booted. I also loose the integrity of the SQL DB and am unable to scan at certain points before exiting POS and restarting the application.

I am running windows XP on the server. My server has a static IP and the terminals get the IP from the router (DHCP). In the RMS experts opinion, what is the best Operating System to run on the server.

One more thing. I want the flexability to remotly connect without disturbing the local user on the server.

Thanks

We use win 2000 and win 2003. Both work well, but be careful that you apply service packs and hot fixes needed. We had a problem that led to our win

Not sure about loading win2003...but you can do sql express...you could probably even do it live (not that I would recommend that of course).

Zoo,

What does the server OS have to do with a register lockup?

What does "I also loose the integrity of the SQL DB and am unable to scan at certain points before exiting POS and restarting the application." mean to you?

The DB is or should be on the server so a register lockup won't affect the server, nor the other register.

What OS is the register running?

Is it on a battery backup?

Is your server and router on a battery backup?

Zoo,

SQL 2005 is unsupported right now with RMS. Look for a change in April-May timeframe.

To install Win 2003 Server you would have to erase the hard drive and re-install the OS, programs and data.

Its also a little overkill for a 3 station setup. XPP on all stations should be fine. 1-2 GB of RAM in the server and 512-1GB in each register works great, if you are only running RMS on it, otherwise you may need more.
