IBM SurePOS 500 & MS RMS 2.0 Printing Problems

Hi

I'm currently trying to put together an IBM SurePOS 500 & MS RMS 2.0 system consisting of the following hardware and software:

Hardware IBM SurePOS 500 - Model 4846-545 Intel Celeron 2.53 GHz 512 MB 80 HDD with

15" Touch Screen (inc. IBM Cash Drawer) IBM CANPOS Keyboard IBM SureMark Dual-Station (Slip & Receipt) Printer 4610 - TG3 Epson TM-L90 Label Printer Symbol LS2208 USB Scanner Software Operating System - Microsoft Windows XP SP2 Application Software: Microsoft Retail Management System (RMS) 2.0 (inc. MS SQL Express 2005 as a back-end database)

I?ve installed IBM UPOS Drivers v1.9.4.58 and configured most of the devices to work properly with RMS, all except the printer. The IBM UPOS printer driver configures and tests fine until RMS is installed and interacts with it at which point it even becomes un-testable within the IBM UPOS configuration.

I?ve tried using the IBM 4610 Printer Driver for Windows 2K, XP, WinSrv03 & WEPOS v.2.4 which produces driver test prints without a problem. Although I haven?t sorted out the receipt formats yet, the printer will print from Store Operations Manager without to much of a problem. However, when trying to print receipts from within Store Operations POS the print job spools to the print queue but doesn?t get released to print until the SO POS application has ended.

Any helpful advice or tips on configuring any of the above would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Paul

Paul,

When you installed the UPOS drivers did you select the Common Control Objects checkbox? RMS only supports CCO for OPOS. You may need to try the Monroe CCO Runtime (Google it).

RMS also prefers OPOS for the receipt printer although you should be able to get the Windows driver to work too. Just make sure no other printer driver in Windows is assigned to the same port or it won't print until exit POS. Remove any status monitors as well.

Make sure you also installed the printer firmware update from within the UPOS installation package.

Here is the link for the Monroe CCO that DRS was referring to:

When I installed the IBM UPOS Drivers I did install the CCOs but I still couldn?t get the OPOS printer driver to work. However, thanks to your advice I?ve managed to get the IBM Windows printer driver working now.

The Suremark 4610 TG3 is attached to COM1 and when I checked if any other drivers were using COM1 it turned out the Symbol LS2208 scanner was, even though it is attached via USB port A. When I installed the LS2208 driver it provided two default OPOS device names: STI_SCANNER and STI_USBSCANNER. When I specify STI_SCANNER as the OPOS device name in Register Properties in SO Manager the scanner works fine but if I use the STI_USBSCANNER OPOS device name the scanner doesn?t work!?! Also, the scanner only works if I use (scan) the HID KEYBOARD EMULATION scanner to host connection and doesn?t work at all if I use the IBM HAND-HELD USB scanner to host connection.

I?ve downloaded the Monroe CCO Runtime you mentioned and will try to get that working next but at least I?ve got the Windows print drivers working to fall back on now thanks to you.

I did install the Suremark printer firmware update when I installed the IBM UPOS drivers and it did update the printer firmware but I got an ?rs232 Surmark Printer Firmware Update application? error every time I rebooted afterwards until I uninstalled the IBM UPOS drivers and re-installed them without including the printer firmware update.

Thank you for the link to the Monroe CCOs.

If it is a regular LS2208 USB scanner, it will install as a keyboard wedge device. You shouldn't need to install any OPOS drivers for this scanner. The only setup you'll need to do is add a carriage return to scans. See the LS2208 quick programming sheet for instructions.

When you remove manufacturer OPOS drivers they sometimes take RMS common controls with them. You may need to install the RMS CD afterwards if you get an error starting POS or Manager.
