Printing from the Store Operations Journal

Jan 14, 2010 6 Replies

I am trying to print from the store operation manager journal. When I go to print I get a message indicating that:

"An error occured while trying to print to the specified printer. Please make sure that you have a printer installed and that it is properly configured before continuing."

I get this if I: Click the Print button Click the Page Setup button Press Alt-P (per the help file)

I am running RMS 2.0 with SP2 currently installed. Earlier today I had SP3 installed. I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it and SP2.

I am a tech support person and do not use the "Store Operations POS" part of the software. I am running Win XP Pro SP3 and have .Net 1.1, 2.0 SP2, 3.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1 frameworks installed.

I do not have any problem with printing any of the reports from the reports menu.

Does anyone else have this problem? Can someone please help me with this?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Terry

I have had this problem and it was caused by the default windows printer changing. In my experience, the journal prints to the windows default printer (at least when using Windows drivers), not the designated RMS printer. Try setting the printer you need as the default in Windows and see if that solves your problem.

Marc,

Thanks for the suggestion. I have multiple printers set up on my PC. I have tried changing the default printer this morning. No luck there. I continue to get the same message.

Jeff,

Thanks. That didn't work by itself but did point me in the right direction. When I set the printer information for just "Receipt Printer 1" I would get the same error as soon as I clicked print in the Journal.

I did get printing capabilitiy from the journal but it's not what I expected. Here is what I had to do and what it does when I want to print from the Journal.:

  1. Went into SO Manager and added a new register (I'm really not at a register, see initial post for explination).
  2. Went into SO Admin on my PC and change the register to the new register then exited.
  3. Went into SO Manager|Database|Registers|Register List|
  4. Selected the new register
  5. Clicked properties
  6. Chose "Windows" printer type for BOTH "Receipter Print 1" and "Receipt Printer 2"
  7. Filled in "myprinter name on myprintserver" for both receipt printers
  8. Clicked OK and restarted SO Manager
  9. Clicked Journal
  10. Selected a journal
  11. Click the "Print" button.

This is where it "kind of" works. You get a prompt dialog listing: Select Receipt Printer Receipt Printer 1 Receipt Printer 2 Windows Printer

If I select either of the "Receipt Printers" and click OK I still get the original error and cannot print. If I select "Windows Printer" and click OK I get a "Printer Setup" dialog where I can select any printer and successfully print to it.

Hope this helps anyone who might have the same issue.

I have found that RMS likes to use simpler printer names defined in the register. Instead of trying to copy the printer name "HP LaserJet P3005 PCL

6" to the RMS register - printer - Windows device name, rename the printer to just P3005 and use that name in RMS.

The problem happens that when you are us> I am trying to print from the store operation manager journal. When I go to

Unfortunately I have no control over the naming of networked printers.

Thanks for all the good info!
