Confused after POS2K9 - Live Chat

After the POS2K9 Live Chat - I'm more confused than ever.
1. Customers can't get demo of POS2K9 unless they go thru their resellers -
why not have it on customersource. Why am I paying maintenance?
2. POS2K9 - will not have an HQ version built by Microsoft, maybe a third
party vendor will built one. Why isn't Microsoft providing a complete
solution instead of a mismash of solution. When something breaks how will be
accountable?
3. If you move to POS2K9 - you can't downgrade back to RMS 2.X or RMS 3 (if
it ever gets released)!
4. If you move from RMS to POS2K9 - their maybe a cost involve since it is
considered a different product according to my resellers?
5. It appear Microsoft will rely more and more on Add-on built by other
vendors versus developing innovation and solving problems in their existing
and future RMS/POS system.
The live chat would have been more productive for me, if Microsoft trusted
it's customer and provided them with more information rather than relying on
reseller/partnersource to be the gatekeeper of all the upcoming information
and RMS product direction. As most store owner have big investments in
dollars/time/data in their POS system - changing systems is not a trivial
matter- so keep us in the loop Microsoft. Starting to wonder if we made a
good more several years ago- when we moved to Microsoft RMS.
I would be interested in hearing other customers feedback on the live chat
or Microsoft direction?

Jeff, I am thinking about a new partner. Mine, as of 6 pm yesterday told me that he COULD NOT give me the demo. They said they would lose their license to sell MS products. MS told me that I had to go through my partner & in a roundabout way gave me the names of some other Partners in the Atlanta area. I called 2 of them & they also said they didn?t know where to get the demo. I am ok waiting on the PID but, like you said, I just want to get familiar with it before I poll this out in my store. I don?t think my partner in that in the loop, my fear is that I have paid for some tech support w/ my partner (I feel more knowledgeable about MS that they are) & I may lose my $. MS said I can use any partner going forward. Got ant suggestions? Do you know where I can get this demo? -- Thanks! David D. L.S.B.

The main thing concerning me about all this is the lack of communication between MS and their customers. POS2009 has been announced many times, for a long time, as being the upgrade to RMS. Now, it's being announced that it is a new product, not an upgrade, and that RMS will be available and updated for years to come. I actually prefer to stay with RMS for many reasons, not the least of which is add-ons in use by my company. However, it is very hard for us as customers to determine whether or not to buy a beneficial add-on since we have been waiting for 2009 to come out to see what will come with the upgrade. It appears we are safe to buy add-ons now since 2009 is a new product, and RMS is going to be supported for years to come. It would be very nice however, to have an official announcement from MS about this so we can feel confident in our decisions.

Hi Craig
Well said, I agree 100 % ... an official announcement from MS would give us some confidence in our decisions.

It looks like everyone is kicking the same dead horse from 5 years ago. Bad partner communication or just bad uninformed partners, no official direction statement from MS. MS has to understand that the better they communicate with the end user, the better the end user can run their business as we depend on this product.
As everyone can see Jeff @ Checkpoint is about the only person willing to work with anyone. He must be getting tired supporting his customers and this newsgroup.

I guess they don't have to be here. I feel like I got burned bad, I am very familiar w/ MS stuff, just never done any POS business with them.(possibly wont again). This is a horrible way to treat end users ( and it looks like partners too" I am the "techy high school/college kid" & currently our entire IT Dept(we are a small Fam. biz). I am very comfortable under the hood, I just need a go to source with good info when I need it, not "I'll have to get back to ya" The POS_2009_en_GB download is a bust. It is allowing me to tinker with it but I have stuff I have been waiting for this release to do, Import DB, Suppliers ECT.. It really frustrates me that my "Partner" seems to have no idea about the DEMO policy, because he won't let me have it! I can wait for my PID's, but it would be appropriate for me as a customer to be able to get going with this. MS informed me today that I can change Partners, con you shoot me some info on what you guys do? snipped-for-privacy@gmail.com

Hello ALL, I got POS 2009 to download from that cts-retail site in UK and it works just fine for me. 1. It is pretty to behold but lack a lot of features of RMS. 2. The thing that I really like is the task panes and the extra long item descriptions. 3. It has to have a lot of partner add ons to make it into RMS 3. 4. Get your partner to email you a RMS vs. POS 2009 comparsion file. Mine did and I found it to be a great read. If any one finds a US version of that demo then let me know. I would love to port my database over to it for testing purposes only.

Hi folks,
I had this same problem for quite a while with Microsoft. In case you haven't already found it, you can download POS 2009 from

2009. This has the US, Canada, and several other versions available as well as some good documentation, an SDK, and Rapid Implementation Tools. I hope this helps.

Jeff, Could you email me the demo and the SDK? I would really love to check under the hood at what the thing can do before I really drive it! I have heard that POS 2009 is suppose to replace both POS 2.0 and RMS 2.0 with just not as may features turned on out of the box. I believe with the right tools and a little help that I can put some of this partners in the right direction as to what they need to be making for some of this clients. Thanks,

Hi Jeff,
I'd love to get a copy of the POS 2009 SDK. Could you send that over to me as well?
Thanks,

Jeff, Can you please send me the SDK info too? I’m seriously considering MS POS 2009 (and played with the demo already), but only if I see how extendable it is.
Thanks, Al snipped-for-privacy@gmail.com
