Deleting old items

Hi All,

We have nearly 70,000 item codes out of which we have identified some 10,000 item codes which are not having any history or quantities. These are codes from the old legacy system which were not to be imported into RMS.

Due to these unnecessary codes our reports including the stock count variance reports are slowed down.

We would like to delete these unnecessary item codes from the RMS database so that we can speed up reports and keep the data base clean.

Would really appreciate if you could let me know how we can go about this and the implications if any in doing such mass deletions.

Thanks in advance

Select Maintenance, Delete Items, press F5 to view all candidates over 1 year old with no activity, or lower the date in upper right before pressing F5. Mark all or selected, the click Save.

If you delete a lot of items, you can run this script in Administrator to shrink your database:

DBCC SHRINKDATABASE (X)

Note: Replace X with the name of the Store Operations database. Press F5 to run the script.

If the goal is to speed up searches and reports, you should also mark old items with transaction history as inactive.

Select Maintenance, Mark Inactive, press F5 to view all candidates with no activity in over 1 year, or lower date in upper right before pressing F5. Mark all or selected, then click Save.

TIP: When performing cycle counts using Physical Inventory, use the Filter option to exclude inactive items from your worksheets.
