Is it possible to obtain hotfixes with out having a maintenance plan? If not, I think that it is just wrong...

It is not possible.. I agree it is wrong, and unethical.. Most people don't know this , but the company that originally developed this software, SMS, did not require a maintenance plan to get fixes for bugs. That all changed the day MS bought them out..
And you need to test the hotfix in detail before loading it. The last hotfix was a complete mess and the data uploads went from a few minutes to in some cases 4 hours, and HQ manager now hangs all the time. Well done MS.
