New upgrade, new maintenance plan, new partner?

Thanks to any/ all who may respond. We have somewhat of a difficult situation. Any suggestions would be most helpful.

If I may, let me explain: We have two stores (Store A - 2 registers, Store B - 1 register) and a Headquarters license (I assume a 2-store license). This is RMS 1.3.

We also purchased a maintenance plan, which expired toward the end of January 2007. We decided to not renew it as we never used it.

We figured that we missed the upgrade to 2.0, however, yesterday we received a package in the mail that had the upgrade disks and licenses. We're trying to figure out if we want to now install the upgrade. Additionally, we just purchased another store at another location. So now, what would it take to purchase a license for a new register, for HQ (enable 3-store capability), and a maintenance plan for Store C ? And, we want to go with a new partner.

I understand that a maintenance plan is like 18% ..or like 30% of the MSRP for a penalty (or your first-born male child, whichever is of greater value). Can we go with a new partner to purchase a Store OPs license and a license to add a third store to HQ, and a maintenance plan without bringing in the costs of what we paid previously and tacking on penalty fees, etc.? We're not trying to be shady, but if there's a better way of doing this, we'd like to take it. Our partner charged us way too much for the software originally (above MSRP), too much for their support, and too much for a maintenance plan. And too much for... Point being, the system cost us more than it should.

I guess I don't need to explain why we're also looking for a new partner. There are some other reasons, but I'll try to keep this professional and not go into details.

We aren't really wanting to upgrade for fun of it. We're just trying to keep our options open, do what's smart. If an upgrade is an unwise decision, is it still possible to buy RMS 1.3 HQ/Store Operations? We aren't that large/profitable of a company and we're looking for the least expensive option. ...but we don't want to do anything illegal.

...if some RMS 2.0 CD's and license keys show up on ebay, it isn't us ;)
