We are trying to take a single lane to a dual lane - done this multiple times in the past.
But - now with 2.0 we are told that not ony does 2.0 require service, but that we must also upgrade to 2.0.
I am not really ready to upgrade yet. We have not tested anything, and I am just confused by the reuqired service bit. Can't we just get a license and stay with 1.3...?
What am I missing here?

I'm willing to bet that you could pay what you have to pay to get the 2-lane dongle, add a 2nd lane using the v1.X CDs you already have and keep the v2.0 CDs around for when you're ready to upgrade.

Forgive me if this reply turns up twice...
You will probably have to pay whatever MS demands to get your 2-lane dongle.
Once you get your 2-lane dongle, I doubt that anyone will force you to put that v2.0 CD in your PC. I'll bet that the dongle will work just fine with v1.3...

Yes, I agree with you there Tom. What I am hoping is that the new key code (since dongles are of past technology now) will still function with 1.3.
And the pricing... that is just rough even at a partner level.

I just checked my notes...
Version 1.3 for single stores (no HQ) ships until March 1, 2007. Version 1.3 will ship until 2008 for multi-store customers (HQ customers). If you can't purchase 1.3 from your usual partner, give us a call. 212-372-3082.

Well, we partnered for licensing reasons and b/c we are third party to our locations, but when we contacted ScanSource they said only 2.0 is available to them. So, to upgrade from 1 lane to 2, we were told we would have to purchase two new copies of 2.0... That seemed like an off statement to me.
But, yes we are a HQ environment w/ 79 locations (mostly dual lanes) and an upcoming added 150 locations this year. I just need to make sure I have my pricing straight because I do not want to upgrade until 100% tested. The reason why we are still on 1.3 instead of 1.3R is because of the oddities in
1.3R with POs and the AR.
I am just slightly confused. Now, ScanSource is not my only option, correct?

it's upto you if and when you upgrade. dont feel pressured to do it. keep up your service plan payments and do it when you are good and ready.
The upgrade is straight forward - nothing scary in it - and the application isnt a massive change from 1.3.

Jeff,
This is good to here we will be able to contiune on with the dongle version, till we have time to fully test 2.0 out in our Lab Store Setup 1st.
I am currently having 20% growth with our stores during the 1st 6 months, plus I am planning on rolling out new POS Hardware to 1/3 of the other stores. We are looking at the NCR RealPOS 70 setup with touchscreen and finger print sign on ID. I will need time to see how to best rollout 2.0 and maintenance our Database history for last 7 years. Over the last 7 years, I have done alot of customs reports and receipts to verify if will work with 2.0.
