How do get back up running???

I will be going "live' with RMS 2.0 for the first time April 2. But before I do, I would like to get all of my ducks in a row. My question related to MAJOR FAILURE AND HOW TO RESTORE. I had RMS installed on a brand new virgin system running a RAID 1 hard drive setup with multiple rotating backups, (Yes I have been burned before). Setup as follows:

Register #1 = Running POS/DATABASE

Register#2 = Manager access

Register #3 (Back Office) = Manager access

Just a little doomsday planning.........gotta be ready.

SCENARIO : My primary POS crashes (Yes I have backups) how do I get myself back up and running? With my primary system out of commission, what do you recommend be the steps I should take to get myself running?? All three machines I have can handle register duties with ease. How do I go about re-assigning the RMS key to work with another system?? I have a single lane key.

Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated!

to restore database you go to Store Admin, create new database and restore the bck file, Yes i know it's stupid and you have to give a new name too...:)

funny restore but that's the procedure, i had to do it....

That part I kind of understand, but what about the key? I know with version

1.3, they used a dongle, and all you had to do is move the dongle to the new machine, but that does NOT seem to be the case with 2.0. I assume I create the new database on another system and restore from backups.....then launch POS, where I should be prompted to enter the key, won't I run into a license violation?? Like I said, I am just trying to create a "Plan of Action" for myself. And if I can do anything ahead of time to make the restore quicker and easier, I want to do just that!

Hey Doug,

I'm pondering a similar question to Tim's. We run the store database on a non-register machine in the back office and run the offline DB on one of the POS machines. I'm wondering if you have any locations running this kind of setup on 2.0? I want to avoid any potential licensing issues with 2.0. I don't believe that the new licensing cares where the store DB is located but I want to verify with someone who's actually running it. Could you let me know if you have any experience on this one?

Thanks mucho,

Brandon
