Hi, Does any one know how to assign or select many items to a single department ? Does any one know how to assign many items to a single department catogery ?
I have about 4000 items to be assign to catogery and department, and I don want to sit down to assign one item at a time, any suggestion will be very much appreciated.

what is the criteria for the items u want to assign? do u have anything common between the 4000 items?
I need to assign say selected 10 items to cat A, another 5 items to cat B, and so on... and cat A is belong to Department X, cat b belong to Department Y and so on..
There are not the same items but like i mentioned there belong to respective cat and deparment. I wish to know a better way to assign them or may be I can use some importing tools to import my data from Excel.

this can all be done in either the Store Administrator or Headquarters Administrator using a series of SQL commands. It's not too hard to do if you are comfortable with SQL and know the table names, but you have to be very careful and make full backups before doing this.
I'm sorry that I can't provide SQL code for you because I no longer work for the client that I installed RMS for. However, I do remember that there is a table named Item; and in this table there is are fields for both the Department and for the Category. You should start with one item in the Dept. and Cat. that you like, then using SQL see which numbers match up to the respective Dept/Cat. Then, you can use an UPDATE query to select the 4000 records you want and change them all to the Dept./Cat. number that you want. I've done this before but this is all that I can remember off hand.
