How to enable Custom text, date and number in POS 2009

Ryan, is it possible to add Custom fields to Item records beyond the three custom text fields limited to 30 characters? As I expect it is not possible, is there any way to adjust POS2009 to add this capability using the SDK? In our business, we need to track many other types of information for each item (release dates, formats, labels, configurations, etc.) and it would be useful to have fields for dates, text (more than 30 characters), drop-down lists, numbers, etc. and to then be able to use these fields in reports.

Greg, Not really. The closest we have come is a custom application that relaces the standard RMS lookup window, looks almost identical, but can be further customized. This works fine for looking up/editing items at the POS, or the same in Manager, but there is no way to hook in for Purchase Orders, Transfers, etc, screens in RMS to display our form.
