howto track inventory changes?

Apr 17, 2007 3 Replies

Most user roles (except cashiers i guess) can manually change the stock level of items (in the items menu). This also applies for 'physical inventory', 'inventory transfer'.

MS POS lacks the tracking and control of inventory changes.

Supervisors and managers need to know why stock level changes and explain to the owner why there are discrepanties in the inventory. Better yet: they need to know who (which user) is responsible.

i suggest that Microsoft should build in a control or tracking method to do so.

ps. when the physical inventory differs from the POS system inventory, owners often say that the POS system has a bug. How else can it be explained?

Dennis,

The Item Movement History report (found under Reports->Inventory) shows any changes to the item quantity, including who did and when they did it. The type shows whether it was a manual adjustment, received from a PO, sold, etc...
