HQ & SO on one server

I'm having trouble getting the HQ client to connect. My SO database is on the same server as my newly created HQ database. I installed the HQ Client on the server and it wouldn't connect. I uninstalled then tried from a different PC. In both cases, I get the same error.

Now--to make matters worse--I cannot run any of the HQ or SO apps on my server. I get "Run-time error '429': Active X component can't create object". It's the middle of the day, so I haven't restarted the server.

Does anyone out there have experience with hosting both HQ and SO databases on the same machine? What's the trick?

Thanks, Tom

TT,

You can't have the 2 dongles on the same machine.

Here's a KB for running both on the same machine;

429 is usually a MDAC whacked ;-)

Come on, I know you know how to use the KB! ;-)

I figured it out.

I posted in a moment of panic. However...

Installing HQ Client on your HQ Server might be OK, but it won't work. The client won't be able to access the necessary port if the server is listening and won't connect for obvious reasons if the server isn't listening. What worse, uninstalling HQ Client hoses everything--thankfully reinstalling HQ Client made it all OK. I think I'll just leave it there, unused and functional.

The reason the other machine couldn't connect was that I hadn't started the HQ Server.

My SO dongle is on Register1--has been since day 2. I learned eary that starting POS on the server every AM was to be avoided--especially if I wasn't around to do it. Now everyone knows to start Register1 first thing in the AM and I don't have any problems. This setup also made installing the HQ dongle much simpler.

Thanks for the quick reply, though.
