Intel Core Duo processor

If I use a Intel Core Duo processor on my remote storeOPts Mgr-computer will my HQ-Client, Mgr and MSDE work better? In other words will the RMS software utilize the Dual-Core to my advantage? I'm trying to cut down on number of boxes in backroom.

None of those programs are specifically written to take advantage of multi-processing (MSDE may be an exception, but I believe that it is limited to a single processor). Windows will take advantange of the multiple cores and any other processes that are running may also do so. You should see some improvement in overall system performance, but it's because of those peripheral processes being spread out by Windows, not because of RMS being aware of the dual cores/processors.

Dual-core processors have other advantages - like better performance for the same heat output. I think they are a good value right now.

If you have to make a choice between upgrades, adding RAM is a better choice than adding processor power.

Think about your upgrade path though. Make sure any system you buy today is going to be "Vista Ready" - the next version of Windows has relatively high recommended specs.

Extra RAM and 15k rpm SCSI drives will help you quite a bit

THanks Glen. Do you know if the 'Implementation Guide' is going to be updated soon? It talks about Pent.III and 4 and 256/512 MB memory. Now we have Pent-D and Duo-Core available and with Vista coming soon. I'm planning 3 new HQs and want to be sure I get the best deal for my customer. Is there any other 'discussion groups' you can think of that might be enlightening on this topic?
