Inter-Store Sales/Transfer Dilemma

Dec 15, 2005 1 Replies

Of my four stores, one is not like the others. Stores 1,2 & 4 are basically the same: showroom & warehouse, generally in the same bldg. Store 3, on the other hand...

... is a very different animal. Stores 2 & 3 are pretty close to each other, and store 3 has practically no warehouse space. A large percentage of store 3 sales are delivered by store 2 personnel from the store 2 warehouse.

The store 3 sales that are delivered from store 2 stock are where things get tricky.

Suggestions, anyone?

Tom

Tom I am assuming that it is accepted that store 2's warehouse is a common warehouse for 1 & 2. We have written a special module called "RR Distribution Manager" [for a chain of Furniture stores]. This module as it stands allows the show rooms to select a items in work order. The work order goes to HQ and at HQ someone selects which store they want the orders to be shipped from.

Potentially we could alter this to make the default store for ship from to be store 2 whenever store 3 makes work orders. This way the store 2 stock becomes committed as part of the Transfer Out. When the productis issued to customer [collected by customer or shipped to him] the transfer-out is closed and store 3 will be notified of this. The system also bot at store 2 and 3 know whether the account is COD or has been paid in full. We allow th emoney to be collected in either place.

The sale is always for the store that sells the item [in this case store 3]. And the revenue goes back to store 3. Stock is adjusted at store 2 and 3 automatically by our application that runs a service in background.

The 401 is used as mechanism for transmission. So you may have to increase the connection grequencies.

Hope this helps.
