An item that you don't stock. Rather than using a coupon item and adding 1000 to stock on hand, use a non inventory item and never have to replenish it.
There are lots of uses for a NI item, labor, subscriptions, services, coupons, discounts, are a few.

What exactly do you mean by a "non inventory" item?
I've used this before as a way of discounting monies from a transaction, the problem for me is that it hides the true margin for the items in the rest of the transaction that are actually the ones you want to discount...
