quantity discount on returns

I don't know if I missed something, but discounts entered in the quantity discount table for an item come up fine when we sell an item, but do not come up in return mode. Is this normal behavior?

Do u recall the original transaction or just make a return? try recalling the orginal transaction.

RMS doesn't return discounted items with the discounted prices coz it doesn't know when the item was sold.

I am referring to a return without a recall. It seems to me that RMS would not have to know when the item was sold, as it is not a 'sale' price, but a discount set in the table. It just seems a little dangerous, because if the cashier does not refer to the original receipt, the customer gets back more than they paid. I would prefer the program take the safe route and assume the quantity was all purchased at once.

I understand that the price would be correct in a 'recall' refund, but that is usually not feasible because the item being returned is one of many on a receipt (unless there is a way to do that!).

Is there a reason for this behavior that I am missing?

I agree, i've having issues with this as well.

At a minimum it should use the current quantity discount rules setup for that item when the person performs the return.

Dustin, It sure seems like a major issue to me and I was very suprised by the lack of response.

NO IT should NOT use the current quantity discount. We do not know when they bought the products and what are the policies of the stores. So if you have the receipts when they return it use the price on the reciept. Otherwise if your customer wants to use the current discount scheme create a special program that uses the tender hook and applies the discount [this is a small program - contact me if you want us to do it for you]

In my experience it is standard practice in retail (large box chains) to refund the 'current discount price' by default and adjust it ONLY if you have a receipt. From a busy retailer's point of view it is very dangerous to have a system where a customer may get back more money than they were charged. For example:

1- A customer may not HAVE a receipt and you still are going to give them credit. 2- The cashier may not remember to LOOK at the receipt's price - this is REAL LIFE! 3- If you 'show discount' on the receipt a manual calculation has to be made in order to do the refund.

I had hope there would be a clamor about this and MS would have to address the issue but apparently not many people see it the way I do.

Afshin, I will contact you about pricing for a fix.
