macro idea..

ok, i want to tidy up the way we discount items that we sell. i retail plants, and when they are not looking their best i might take money off, e.g

2 pounds off a plant at 5.99. What we had been doing is creating another product and calling it **reduced plant 3.99** and then sticking that label over the original one. For obvious reasons that is not a good idea, stock control, lack of knowing what plant has sold etc.

what i want to do is...

Make labels which say 2.00 off this plant, and when the till operater sees the label they know to discount the item by 2.00. Is it possible for me to make a macro which does this? And can i make a barcode which activates the macro rather than having to program a key on my keyboard? e.g. use a macro which moves the transaction line back up to the previous item and takes 2.00 off it, then moves the line back down ready for the next item to be scanned?

Hope that makes sense - or does anyone else have a way of doing this which is nice and simple for the till operators?

You could record such a macro, but I don't know how you would trigger it with a barcode.

You could make a non-inventory item (or group of items) 'DISCOUNTx' where X is the discount amount. This would be good for A. creating barcodes and B. tracking discounts.

Yeah i have used that in the past, the only bit i dont like is that it hides the true price paid for that particular item - for example if i scan the plant at the full 5.99 first then scan the non inventory item which is set to -2.00 then later if i run a report to show margins on the 5.99 plant then the till doesnt realise that it has been discounted by way of a non inventory item...

does this make sense or am i setting up my non inventory items in the wrong way?
