MS POS 2.0 Taskpad Layout Editing with XML

Apr 25, 2008 2 Replies

I want to edit my taskpad layouts. For some wierd reason there isn't a gui way to do this, but there are XML files that are for the taskpad layouts. In C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics - Point of Sale\Database\2.50\SeedData\Files (and a couple other places if you change

2.50) There are files for each taskpad layout, for instance "Combo_Button_pad.xml". I should be able to turn off pos, edit this file, and get a different layout when i turn it back on, but this doesn't work. The taskpad just refuses to change, even if i replace every instance of this file.

It worked once, seemingly randomly, and i now have a 1x15 taskpad layout (which is awesome), but i can't get it to work again. Can anyone reliably edit the taskpad layouts? This should be so simple! [and no, i'm not doing this on my actual register =) ]

Ron,

The task pad layouts that POS is using are actually stored in the database (not in the file system at the path you provided). To get access to these, use the File Center, which is found under the Tools menu in Manager View. You'll see a folder structure similar to that on a standard file system. However, all of these folders and files are actually in the database. If you navigate to the task pad layout folder, you'll see the templates. You can export these, edit them, and then add them back into the database, all using the File Center.

Let me know if you need more help.

Jeff
