PINPads Still Causing RMS Error

Hi all,

I am having the following issue at 5 or 6 separate stores. I have posted on this subject repeatedly but no resolution yet:

The clerk will be performing a transaction , usually a debit, sometimes a credit, rarely a check or cash, and RMS POS will go through to the tender screen then, prior to printing the receipt, will just close RMS. Checking the Journal and the Tenders shows that the Debit/Credit went through but that the transaction did not hit inventory and there is no journal to reprint.

We have found that this is caused by having a VeriFone 1000se PINPad connected via Serial. When we have the stores simply unplug the PINPad they stop getting the errors.

I just applied Hotfix 2.0.0114, noting that one of the fixes in Hotfix 5 (2.0.0111) was: Error message when you have debit card pin pads enabled in Microsoft Dynamics RMS Store Operations: "Error #-2147467259 Database connection lost, application will be closed"

I had all the stores with the problem reconnect their PINPads and immediately started getting calls again about the issue.

Any of you out there who were having this problem that actually had it resolved?

Next question: Why some stores but not others?

We have the same issue sporadically and on different registers that after entering the tender amount when it should start printing it just kicks you out of RMS. This usually happens with a credit card tender although it has also happened once or twice with cash. I've not been able to pin point exactly when or how this happens so I don't think it has anything to do with your pinpad (since we don't use pin pads at all).

The biggest problem is that when this happens the cashier rings up the customer again, since they did not get a credit card slip and receipt the first time even though the customers credit card was authorized (but the cashier has no way of knowing this). When you do a reprint (of the last receipt) it will actually print the receipt BEFORE the last transaction (that kicked you out of RMS). Also if you try to pull up the "missing" transaction journal thru the tender summary report it will just give you the "No receipt to display" receipt.

What we have to do is basically recall the transaction for void before we settle the EDC batch in order for the customer to not get double charged.

This problem seems to happen more lately than it used to be (we usually try to stay current with the hot fixes and are currently on version 2.0.0113).

Sorry, but I don't have a solution for this problem.

Did you checked for a verifone merchant service update ?

I think problem is in your network. You should ckeck your firewal setting. I had same problem When I was using CA antivirus and firewall. When I remove CA and Install Nortan and I have no problem. If you are running a firewall on main Station then turn it off for few hour and see what happen. .

I have killed the AV product running on the systems (NOD32, awesome product!) in the event that this was the issue, with no change in behavior.

There is a problem with serial ports on XP where closing the port after use requires a small delay. I wonder if the builtin serial port on the hardware you are using sometimes needs a longer delay than is being provided in the drivers employed. If you can switch the Pinpad to a serial port on an addin card it might be worth your time to test if that solves the problem.
