POS installation error

I just installed POS v2.0 on a new HP rp5700 POS terminal. I originally tried to connect to a remote database but couldn't. Since that could be due to a network error, I tried to re-install using a local sample database.

After successfully installing the software and the sample database (no errors), the password wizard starts as expected. After entering a default owner password and confirmation, I get an error dialog (details below). Any suggestions?

Mark,

It seems like the Possum service isn't running. This has to be running to log in. If you restart your machine it should start automatically. Or you could try running it manually. From a command line type "net start possum". If you're running Vista, make sure you open the command prompt "as administrator".

If this doesn't work check your event log for more info.

Thanks, Jeff, for your suggestion.

After a few hours on the phone with Microsoft support on the original goal of using a remote database, the problem turned out to be that the "Adminstrator" account was disabled on the remote database server. Even though there were other accounts on the database server with administrator priviledges, the "Administrator" account must be active.
