Problems with hardware set up. I can't give my scanners and ... na

Hi all. I have just received my touch screen monitors, scanners, cach drowers and sceles. As I thouth Microsoft would make it easy to set up all this stuff with client computers. But I'm a little disappointed. So what I need is....

  1. I need to use my scanners, and reciept printers. But when I want to set up scanners and reciept printers with each of registers I have to put there their names. I have no idea what name I have to put there. I found that I have to do something like set it with virtual java machine or something ....

Can anyone give me a complete step by step guide how to set it all ? or someone can explain me all it ? thank you ...

  1. Second I want to use one of my scanners to add new item's barcodes to database. I have connected it to my server. What to do now ? Seems that I miss something to set up besides of RMS do not regcognize my scanner ....

Your reseller should be helping you with this; either the reseller that sold you RMS or the one that sold you the hardware.

Printers: You use either OPOS drivers or Windows Drivers - in either case they will be available from the printer's manufacturer. If you use OPOS, you will giv ethe device a name called an LDN (Logical Device Name) in the manufacturer's setup utility. The utilities are differnet for each manufacturer. If you use windows drivers, you enter the printer name as shown on the Windows Printers & Faxes screen. Try to rename the printer to something short and easy to type...

Scanners: Most scanners don't require any setup at all - in Register Settings, you should leave the Scanner tab blank. Most scanners emulate the keyboard and just send text to the computer as though it were a really fast typist. If you have a Serial (RS-232) connected scanner, you probably need to get OPOS drivers from the manufacturer and set the scanner up in Register properties. In this case, you would enter an LDN just like you did for the printer.

You don't want JAVAPOS - RMS doesn't know what that is... You *might* be able to use UPOS (Universal POS), but I'm not sure - never tried it...

Manager: Again, most scanners are keyboard emulators and require no setup - if your DOES require setup, it may not be usable in Manager. I'm not sure, I've never used one that wasn't a keyboard emulator... See if you can scan something into Notepad - if you can, then you should be able to also scan into the ItemLookupCode, Alias or SupplierReorderNumber fields. If this scanner is used ONLY for data entry, you would want to follow the manufacturer's instructions to set it to *not* include a linefeed after the scan.
