while doing some updating through the inventory wizard I seem to have lost all of the default reports is there some way to restore these without restoring the entire database or do I need to do a full restore

You should be able to pull the reports off of the > while doing some updating through the inventory wizard I seem to have lost
The reports are not backed up. Only the database (transactions, inventory, etc) is backed up.
Find them on the installation CD and copy to:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Retail Management System\Store Operations\Reports
...or whatever your reports directory is if changed from default.
