Restocking fee for return item (Opened or damaged)

Hello guys,

How do you guys handle restocking fee? for example lets say a store has a 15% restocking fee policy for returning any opened item. 15% or more for returning damaged item returns.

right now we are using non-inventory item with check marks on must enter price at POS options, Quantity entry at POS not allowed, Item is not discountable at the POS, May not be placed on PO,

After scanning the restocking ILC at the POS we have to calulate the amount with a calulator and enter the amount. It is kind of bothersome and open some area for errors.

Thanks

We don't do very many restocking fees and use a very simplified method. We discount the item on the refund for the restock fee. If there is a 10% restocking fee, ring the refund at a 10% discount. The shortfall is there is no tracking of the fees collected. The plus side is you do not have to manually calculate any fees. Last, depending on state laws, if the fee is not taxable, this method may not acceptable.
